My father-in-law is thinking about venturing into engines.
He's been offered a rather sad looking 3hp CS direct-coupled SOM set, which is apparently complete and was running when removed but the big end is gone.
It won't cost him a lot, £150, but I'm not sure of his intentions with it, I doubt he will be intending to show it! I think he wants to keep it as a home generator or sell it to someone whos living the good life down in Sligo (insert other rural parts of Ireland), if so I don't think it will be the "investment" he hopes it is.

Looks like a fun project. I hope he got the head.

If the big end is gone the rest of it is likely to be entirely clapped out as well. A worthy project though.

Yes, that was also my feeling, if I was over there I would probably buy it for a project as I quite like the direct-coupled sets. I don't think my Father in law is buying it for the right reasons, he would have been better off buying the National gas engine that was 10 minutes down the road from him and sticking that in his garage for a few years.

It's all complete from what he says Roland, I would be a bit hesitant unless I had seen it all in picture.

He's decided against it. Shame really but he's not interested in the history of it sadly.
