Hello my name is Rob, and I am a new member. I live in the United States. I recently bought a Petter 3hp appletop engine. The engine was restored several years ago. It is in nice shape and runs well. The base fuel tank is rusted on the inside. I want to remove the tank to clean it out. I assume that I need to remove the copper fuel lines. Then remove the four nuts from the studs on the fuel tank. I will lift the engine to separate it from the tank. After I remove all the rust, I will coat the inside to prevent it from rusting in the future. When I reassemble the engine is there any type of gasket that goes between the engine and the fuel tank? Thanks for any information.

No gasket just two clean surfaces. If those surfaces are damaged then a very light smear of silicone wouldn't hurt.
